The work of Vevey architects Ernest Burnat and Charles Nicati, the Hôtel National de Montreux was built in 1874 in a style inspired by French Renaissance châteaux, with high roofs adorned with brick chimneys. The Hôtel National enjoys a spectacular panoramic view of the Dents-du-Midi thanks to the architect Eugène Jost, who in 1898 raised the National by one floor (2 years earlier, he had also created the shopping arcade, offering hotel guests an environment conducive to shopping).
Disused and abandoned in the last quarter of the 20th century, the Hôtel National was brought back to life by being transformed into a luxury real estate complex.
