At the foot of the Simplon Pass lies the beautiful town of Brig. It was named Alpine Town of the Year in 2008. It's not for nothing, given that it lies amidst the magnificent mountain scenery that surrounds it. Brig is a sun-drenched town and, thanks to its central location, the ideal starting point for excursions to the Valais side valleys, the Swiss capital Bern, or even to Italy.
Brig is arguably one of the busiest towns in Upper Valais and, together with Glis, forms the municipality of Brig-Glis. The municipality is vibrant, not least due to the numerous events held in the Mediterranean-style town center, Sebastiansplatz. Brig offers numerous and varied shopping opportunities, several schools for all ages, and there are also secondary schools and universities in Brig. Furthermore, the hub of the Upper Valais Hospital Center is being developed in Brig.
