Among other grape varieties, Pinot Noir prefers sun-baked soils rich in limestone scree; this ideally composed terroir is found in the Salgesch basin, formed by a landslide from the Varone mountain. This landslide, which occurred between 5000 and 7000 BC, gave the vineyard its incomparable terroir, normally only found at an altitude of 1200 to 1800 meters.
